If you get a chance, check out the model train garden exhibit at Holden Arboretum. It is incredible and such a perfect activity for families and that guy in your life who is into trains (there’s always at least one). The detail and execution is mind boggling with natural materials used throughout; bridges made of twigs and tree trunks holding them up. The grand opening day included activities for the kids and hot dog/hamburger grill out. The train exhibit was just an enhancement to the arboretum’s usual exhibits. I kept looking for gardens but was reminded that it is an arboretum. There are lots of trees. It was interesting to see all the varieties and peaceful to walk through the wildflower gardens and around the active pond. We spotted 3 turtles and a gazillion tadpoles. Some of us even saw a green frog hidden on the lily pads. I always love the rubber band sound they make – makes me think of “Froggy Went a Courtin and He Did Ride” from Tom and Jerry. I’m sure the arboretum would be beautiful all four seasons. It was a great way to spend Father’s Day and sign up as members of the arboretum and their reciprocal organizations. The one we chose came to just $30, and I know at a minimum Stan Hywet and the Cleveland Botanical Garden will also be free with that membership. Bonus!
